A few years ago I read a book that was life changing. The book is called The Slight Edge and not only did it transform my personal life, it radically changed my work as a communication specialist. It is the inspiration behind this very business, What’s Your Edge?
I’ve always been passionate about helping people and businesses find their edge through powerful communication strategies and have been doing so for over 20 years. Now, thanks to some additional concepts from Jeff Olson’s The Slight Edge, I can show people how to hit accelerate in their personal and professional growth.
I was thrilled to recently meet my professional crush (yes, Jeff) in person. I told him how much I loved the book and how I have been using its philosophy with all my clients, from building sites to boardrooms, as well as in my life since 2015.
One particularly powerful concept of Olson’s that translates well in my work with others is:
Take listening for example. It’s something we do all the time. Something we can have complete control over yet many of us don’t realise how we can use this naturally occurring gift to make incredible things happen.
Like Steven Covey’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (another amazing book) says “Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.” But when we practice real listening, active listening, we then have this amazing superpower to better understand a person or situation, to connect.
Effective communication is not rocket science but it is a superpower that takes practice, and practice by definition is to do something again and again in order to become better at it – aka taking small actions to produce big results. It’s taken many, many, many small actions to get to this first post on my brand new blog, on my brand new website, of my brand new business, and it’s truly been worth it.
I’m really excited to be sharing so many great things with you. Please join me on this journey.
Here’s to amaaaaazing beginnings,
